ADVANCED CAMERA: Z 6II

The Nikon Z 6II is a versatile camera with a 24.5-million-pixel BSI-CMOS full-frame sensor which can record video up to 4K Ultra HD at 60fps. Nikon introduces the new Nikon Z mount system, and releases two full-frame mirrorless cameras: the Nikon Z 7 and Nikon Z 6

AUSTRALIA – Nikon Australia Pty. Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of the full-frame, Nikon FX format mirrorless cameras Nikon Z 7 and Nikon Z 6, as well as NIKKOR Z lenses, featuring a new, larger-diameter mount.

Mirrorless Reinvented through the Nikon Z mount system

The Z mount system is comprised of mirrorless cameras featuring a new, larger-diameter mount, as well as compatible NIKKOR lenses and accessories. This system has been realised through the pursuit of a new dimension in optical performance. It has inherited Nikon’s tradition of quality, superior imaging technology, great operability, and high reliability, all innovated from its digital SLR cameras.

At the heart of the new Z mount system is the new, larger-diameter mount, which unlocks further possibilities of lens design, increasing greater capabilities in optical performance. The Z mount system will offer a variety of high-performance lenses, including the fastest lens in Nikon history, with f/0.95*. Additionally, the new mount adapter will enable compatibility with NIKKOR F mount lenses, adding to the variety of choices for photographers.

The letter “Z” represents the culmination of Nikon’s relentless pursuit of ultimate optical performance, and a bridge to a new chapter. It is about redefining possibilities to provide image-makers with tools to realise greater creativity.

Nikon will expand the value of mirrorless cameras through the pursuit of a new dimension in optical performance, and by upholding Nikon’s tradition of quality while responding to the evolution of imaging technology. Z 7, Z 6 Product Overview

The Z 7 and Z 6 are equipped with a new backside illumination full-frame, Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor with built-in focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels, and the latest image-processing engine, EXPEED 6.

The Z 7 has 45.7 effective megapixels, and supports a standard sensitivity range of ISO 64–25600. In combination with NIKKOR Z lenses, the camera achieves an outstanding level of sharpness and detail, all the way to the edges of the image.

The Z 6 is an all-purpose FX-format camera with an effective pixel count of 24.5 megapixels, and supports the wide range of ISO 100–51200 standard sensitivities. With superior performance at high sensitivities and full-frame 4K UHD movie recording with full pixel readout, the Z 6 responds to a variety of needs, such as shooting in dimly lit environments, and movie recording.

Z 7 and Z 6 Primary Features

1. Equipped with a new backside illumination Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor with built-in focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels:

A backside illumination CMOS sensor, with built-in focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels, has been adopted for both the Z 7 and the Z 6. The Z 7 has an effective pixel count of 45.7 megapixels, and supports ISO 64–25600 range of standard sensitivities (reduction to the equivalent of ISO 32 and expansion to the equivalent of ISO 102400 is also possible). The Z 6 has an effective pixel count of 24.5 megapixels, and supports a broad range of standard sensitivities, from ISO 100–51200 (additional reduction to the equivalent of ISO 50 and expansion to the equivalent of ISO 204800).

2. A hybrid AF system with focus points covering approximately 90% of the imaging area:

The Z 7 has 493 focus points* and the Z 6 has 273 focus points*, enabling broad coverage of approximately 90% of the imaging area both horizontally and vertically. This hybrid AF system uses an algorithm optimised for the FX-format sensor, to automatically switch between focal-plane phase-detection AF and contrast-detect AF with focusing. The use of NIKKOR Z lenses further maximises AF accuracy with both still images and movies.

*With FX (36×24) image area and single-point AF enabled.

3. The new EXPEED 6 image-processing engine for sharp and clear imaging, and new functions that support creative imaging expression: The Z 7 and Z 6 are equipped with the new EXPEED 6 image-processing engine. Employing the superior resolving power of NIKKOR Z and NIKKOR F mount lenses, subjects are rendered more sharply than ever before. Noise is also effectively reduced. Additionally, a mid-range sharpening option has been added to Picture Control sharpness parameters. This option, along with existing sharpening and clarity parameters, allows users to make various textures within the screen sharper or softer, for both still images and movies*. The cameras also offer 20 options of Creative Picture Control, supporting creative imaging expression. The effect level is adjustable from 0 to 100.

*Mid-range sharpness adjustment is only possible at “High quality” movie setting.

4. An electronic viewfinder that utilises Nikon's superior optical and image-processing technologies to offer a clear and natural view:

The electronic viewfinder adopted for the Z 7 and Z 6 is comfortable and easy to use, comparable to optical viewfinders. Both cameras are equipped with an electronic viewfinder for which an approximately 3690k-dot OLED panel has been adopted. The electronic viewfinder has, respectively, frame coverage and magnification of approximately 100% and 0.8×, as well as an approximately 37.0° diagonal viewing angle. It draws on Nikon's superior optical technologies and image-processing technologies, ensuring a clear and comfortable view comparable to that of optical viewfinders, with reduced aberration and minimum eyestrain, even during extended shoots. Furthermore, a fluorine coat that effectively repels dirt has been applied to the eyepiece protection window. In addition, the menu can be displayed in the electronic viewfinder, allowing users to quickly view and adjust a variety of shooting settings, including ISO sensitivity, AF-area mode, and Picture Control, all while looking through the viewfinder.

5. An ergonomic design unique to Nikon that enables intuitive operation:

The Z 7 and Z 6 have inherited the superior operability that Nikon has cultivated over the years through its development of cameras. The bodies are compact, while boasting a firm grip that is easy to hold, and buttons such as the sub selector, AF-ON, ISO, and exposure compensation are all placed so that they can be operated swiftly and easily. Additionally, a display panel has been placed on the top part of the camera, where information about settings can be displayed, same as with high-end digital SLR camera models.

6. Movie functions such as 10-bit N-Log that enables wide dynamic range, and time-coding that respond to professional needs:

The Z 7 and Z 6 support recording of not only full-frame 4K UHD (3840 × 2160)/30p movies using the FX-based movie format, but also full-HD/120p movies. Sharper 4K UHD movies are made possible, using the full-pixel readout*. Additionally, Active D-Lighting, electronic vibration reduction, and focus peaking can be used with 4K UHD and Full-HD movie recording. Nikon’s original N-Log can also be used with 10-bit** HDMI output. The cameras utilise extensive colour depth and twelve-stop, 1,300% dynamic range to record a wealth of tone information from highlights and shadows for more effective colour grading. Timecode support*** makes synchronising video and sound to footage recorded across multiple devices easier. Additionally, the control ring built into NIKKOR Z lenses can be used to quietly and smoothly adjust settings such as aperture and exposure compensation.

7. Nikon's first* in-camera vibration reduction with approx. 5.0-stop** effectiveness:

The Z 7 and Z 6 are equipped with in-camera vibration reduction (VR). The VR unit provides compensation for movement along five axes. The effects of vibration reduction are equivalent to a shutter speed increase of approximately 5.0 stops**. This function can also be used effectively with NIKKOR F lenses, including those not equipped with a VR function, with the Mount Adapter FTZ (sold separately)***.

It will provide the same level of dust and drip resistance as the Z 7 and Z 6, and will support USB charging using the EH-7P charging AC adapter.

3. Keeping up with dynamic action and focusing on fine details

9fps* or 7fps* continuous shooting makes easy and adaptable tracking of moving subjects: Photographers will find capturing high-speed moments, such as during a commercial sports photography shoot, a breeze as this DSLR is not only fitted with high speed continuous shooting competence, but also a dedicated autofocus (AF) engine that engages the 153-point AF system and 99 cross sensors to achieve high subject acquisition performance with broad area coverage. Together with the ability to bring down the AF detection range down to -4 EV*, photography in low-contrast situations is similarly made promising.

In macrophotography, the new Pinpoint AF for live view photography helpfully achieves focus on a smaller area with a size that is one quarter for the normal AF area.

Summing up the intensity of power, up to approximately 51 14-bit or 170 12-bit (image size L) RAW images with lossless compression can be captured in a single burst of continuous shooting*.

4. Taking flexibility and efficiency to a new level

Enhanced specifications that optimise operability and process workflow: A high-resolution tilting 3.2-inch touch-screen with 2359k-dot LCD monitor, and button illumination that is helpful when shooting in dark situations, allow shots to be taken from varying angles and in different situations. Additionally, photographers have the option of selecting large, medium* or small* RAW sizes according to their usage needs.

Also, with improved and flexible multiple exposure options, all individual images can be replaced and also simultaneously be saved before the in-camera image combination, and a selected image stored in a memory card can be designated as the first image of the combination*.

Highly effective for jewellery, specimen and landscape photography, the new focus shift capability enables easy acquiring of images for focus stacking*. This function allows the camera to automatically take up to 300 shots while moving focus position from the starting point to infinity. A selection of up to 10 levels of focus distance changes can be made, while interval between shots can be set between 0 and 30 seconds. Completing the practicality of the function is also the enablement of continuous shooting of up to 5ps, exposure smoothing and silent photography.

Making connections a breeze: The availability of WT-7/A/B/C Wireless Transmitter support, available separately, also serves for convenient transfer of image and movie files to a computer or FTP server. When paired with the optional Camera Control Pro 2, remotely controlling the D850 from a PC is easily deployed.

Besides stress-free file transfers, connections with Speedlights are made just as easy with the support for radio-controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting to allow the flexibility in multi-flash photography.

Negative digitizer brings film back to life: When paired with a film holder and micro lens, the D850’s negative digitizer* simplifies the process of using a film scanner to convert negative film (in both colour and monochrome) to 45-megapixel digital images for added enjoyment. The ability to adjust for brightness (up to +/- 5) immediately, and the HDMI connection to TV monitor, allows the viewing of old photos for those moments of impromptu family recollections. Using the same accessories and lenses, reversal film digitization is also possible.

A Centennial Celebration with Nikon 100th Anniversary Limited Commemorative Models

Nikon shares the celebrations of its 100th anniversary with the release of special edition models including the D5 and its renowned triple zoom lens set.

SYDNEY – Nikon Australia is pleased to announce the release of commemorative models and products celebrating Nikon's 100th Anniversary.

Since its establishment (as Nippon Kogaku K.K.) in 1917, Nikon has provided the world with a unique insight into photography through products based on optical and precision technologies.

The 100th anniversary commemorative models have been developed using traditional Nikon technologies as well as advancing on Nikon innovation cultivated since its foundation. These models are a celebration of Nikon’s past 100 years and call upon Nikon’s technological aspirations for the next century.

All commemorative items will come with the 100th anniversary logo as well as unique finishes and features that give the cameras a special touch and flawless edge. These are limited commemorative editions of Nikon’s two flagship DSLR cameras, the ultimate NIKKOR lens in the series of f/2.8 maximum aperture, a set of three NIKKOR lenses, and finally, three binoculars. D5 100th Anniversary Edition

The D5 is Nikon's flagship DSLR camera. It has supported the work of professional photographers in the fields of press, sports and nature photography. The D5 100th Anniversary Edition embodies the heritage of a flagship model with a dark metallic grey finish and a stamp on the bottom noting the Nikon D5’s contribution to the study and exploration of space, with an anniversary booklet detailing this also included.

D500 100th Anniversary Edition

The D500 is a model that offers both agility and highly precise rendering. With its metallic grey finish and commemorative logo, the 100th Anniversary Edition combines an elegant look and feel with practicality. It comes with an exclusive metal case that has a plate on which the commemorative logo and serial number are engraved. The case contains both a body cap and leather strap embossed with the commemorative logo.

NIKKOR 70-200E 100th Anniversary Edition

This is the 100th anniversary edition of the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR, a fast telephoto zoom lens that has been well received for its ability to offer both superior agility and excellent optical performance since its release in 2016. The commemorative lens comes with the individual glass elements that make up the internal workings of the lens, as well as a special stand and case for displaying them, providing those who purchase and use the lens with a sense of just how the lens achieves its characteristic rendering.

NIKKOR Triple F2.8 Zoom Lens Set 100th Anniversary Edition

NIKKOR lenses have become synonymous with Nikon's optical technologies. The NIKKOR Triple F2.8 Zoom Lens Set 100th Anniversary Edition is a set of three f/2.8 maximum aperture zoom lenses that best represent the NIKKOR name. The set is comprised of the wide-angle AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, the normal AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR, and the telephoto AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR. The same commemorative serial number is engraved on all three lenses.

WX 7×50 IF and WX 10×50 IF 100th Anniversary Editions

The WX 7×50 IF and WX 10×50 IF 100th Anniversary Editions are commemorative editions of models in the new ultra-wide field of view WX series (WX 7×50 IF, WX 10×50 IF), which offer incredibly wide fields of view with sharp and clear viewing all the way to field edges. The special commemorative logo is printed on the bottom of the binocular's central shaft, and an exclusive serial number is stamped on the top of the central shaft. In addition to the usual strap supplied with the binoculars, the 100th anniversary commemorative models also come with a WX leather strap embossed with the commemorative logo. Sales of these 100th anniversary commemorative models will be limited to a total of one hundred (7×50 and 10×50 combined).

8×30 E II 100th Anniversary Edition

This is a commemorative edition of the Nikon 8×30E II, a binocular with an orthodox and classic design used and loved by many over the years since its release. Its 63.2° apparent field of view is realistic, and the application of a multilayer film coating to all lens and prism surfaces ensures that the field of view is bright and clear. The commemorative edition has an exclusive metallic grey finish, and the commemorative logo is printed on it. Additionally, it comes with a special strap and case. Sales of this 100th anniversary commemorative model will be limited to a total of four hundred.

New Products Coming Soon from Nikon

On 6th January 2016, Nikon Australia was pleased to announce the launch of the next generation flagship model set to expand photographic achievements for professional photographers, the Nikon D5. This FX format DSLR camera, Nikon’s most powerful camera to date, is developed with advanced specifications that include significantly improved moving subject acquisition capabilities and compelling image quality at high sensitivities to enable excellent response to a wide variety of scenes and subjects.

With a host of new features developed by Nikon, the D5 has plenty to offer professional photographers needing to keep up with the constant change of pace under a variety of conditions.

The new 153-point autofocus (AF) system and a stable viewfinder image makes tracking moving subjects easy, even with high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 12 fps*1. Visual aesthetics are heightened with the collaboration of a new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor and a new EXPEED 5 image-processing engine, producing the highest standard ISO sensitivity in Nikon history with up to an ISO of 102400. This helps to expand photographic possibilities by liberating photographers from lighting restrictions, not only with the capture of still photos but also with recordings of 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) movies.

Workflow is notably amplified in time and function, as more new and improved features and functions are introduced with the 20.8-megapixel D5. The high-resolution touch screen LCD monitor, fast communications with both wired networks via built-in Ethernet connector and wireless networks*2, alongside double memory card slots*3 make for a highly efficient workflow.
